About
Hello. My name is Drake Stevens. I run this place called ATCTrainer.com.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with flying. I got my pilot license in high school, assembled dozens of model airplanes, logged hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours on Microsoft Flight Simulator and even had a “virtual cockpit” in my bedroom at one point.
I think you get the picture.
I live and breathe aviation. (And if I could eat it, I’d probably be doing that too.)
While in college—flight school of course—pilot salaries took a nose dive resulting in a paychecks that looked more like the salary of an assistant manager at Burger King than a professional pilot.
Although I loved flying, I feared ending up six figures in debt, struggling to pay the rent after college.
So I looked for ways I could be involved in the aviation industry and earn a comfortable living at the same time. That’s when I began to seriously consider air-traffic control as a profession.
Air traffic control can be a great career with solid earning potential if you’re willing to work in the right market. Air traffic controllers can earn salaries well into the 6-figure range and have excellent benefits and retirement packages.
I think you’d be hard pressed to get this in any corporate gig these days.
But best of all, I’m working in the same field that I’ve loved since I was a little kid. Air traffic control is a challenging career and has its rough days, but it’s also a career that can provide a lot of personal satisfaction as well.
I started ATCTrainer.com to help future air traffic controllers–and maybe a few pilots–that are serious about being hired by the FAA and making a career out of ATC. I hope you dig the content and post any questions or suggestions you have on the blog.
And if you haven’t downloaded it already, be sure to get your free copy of How to Survive the ATC Academy. It’s my way of saying thanks for visiting ATCTrainer.com.
